Playing Catch Up 2016 to 2019

This post is partial update for us from 2016 moving forward, since we are integrating our blog from the old platform to the new. Thank you so much for taking the time to catch up and keep traveling with us!

Most of you know that Robb and I have been pursuing photography most of our lives, but with how saturated the market is right now, we really have to think outside the box to find a niche that keeps us productive. So, the question is really “what can we do with our little bits of spare time to really flourish?”

As creative minded people, we often feel guilty, because we don’t feel like we always fit into a regular workplace—even as hard as we try.

Luckily, Robb has found a great niche in his day job as a mechanic that keeps us afloat during the months that the business isn’t busy (he also enjoys working for the company that he does). As for me, I quit my day job last June of 2018 to pursue the business full time. I also have rheumatoid arthritis, so between being fatigued most of the time and having sporadic pain, I was having a difficult time. I feel very fortunate to work from home, have time to spend and help out family, and to have time to finish my bachelor’s degree (which I did in April). To say that I am thankful for all that Robb does is an understatement.

To recap our past three busy years of love, life, and traveling—I will start will marriage and purchasing our home. In 2016, we got married, went on our honeymoon and bought a house. The wedding was in Robb’s home town of Bishop, California. Several friends and family members graciously flew or drove to our location. Thanks again everyone! Family was incredible when we were moving in. We spent a lot of our free time cleaning the house, painting the house, and making small improvements (you guessed it—to the house). Robb and his dad replaced the garage roof in October of 2016. We painted all of our interior (other than the kitchen), put in little things like towel rods and light fixtures, and added floating shelves in the kitchen for more storage.

In 2017, we did even more with the business and our home. Robb and his dad and uncle completed the replacement of the roof on the house. We also started revamping the branding for our business. A simple style with a little bit of modern flair. We photographed two weddings. We had our photos displayed in two locations. We also started making our yearly calendars that have brought us a lot of success and joy. It’s so nice to be able to share our work in a creative and useful way for everyone! Overall, 2017 was a very successful year and it really excited us!

This photo cracks me up. A celebratory photo of Robb and his dad and uncle when they finished the roof on the house in 2018.

2018 was also a very successful year. We didn’t photograph as many clients, but we did feel like we got a lot of important work accomplished. The new website was finally launched in May. In May, we took a trip to Bryce Canyon National Park in Utah and spent the week with two of my oldest family friends. We took four trips to California in 2018, one for a family wedding, one for a concert, one for a family birthday, and we also visited Bishop, California in August. Our calendar sales were very fulfilling yet again—thanks to all of you!

There are so many more photos that show updates to the house. We have new windows, new exterior paint color, new trim, and landscaping. We have done so much!

2019 is proving to be a busy year, but I will leave that for a new blog post!

ANNOUNCEMENT: We are going to take part in Tigard Art Walk May 31st through June 2nd in Tigard, Oregon. Updates will be posted on the website home page and on social media.

It’s been difficult to keep this short and sweet, but thank you so much for reading along!

Lots of love!
