Mono Lake is one of the most interesting places we have visited. Not only does it have a unique ecosystem, but it is ever-changing. Certain times of year the algae in the lake makes the water green. Sometimes it is so windy that there area small waves like that of a very calm ocean.
If you visit, please respect the tufa structures as they are easily broken.

We are ready for summer sunsets on the coast! Unfortunately, we don’t get out to the Southern California Coast much (actually Nicole has never been to Huntington Beach). There isn’t much like watching the sun set on the edge of the world!

This mountain is most known for it’s height - an outstanding 14,505 feet. It is the tallest mountain in the lower 48 states. 30,000 people attempt to hike to the top every year, but only about 10,000 people succeed. Much of this is due to conditions (weather changes quickly at 14,000 feet), and altitude sickness.

The view from the top of Mammoth Mountain is pure magic! There is a lift to the top for both skiers, snowboarders, and if you just want to take in the scenic view!

Another impressive peak in the Sierra Nevada range. We had the privilege of backpacking in and seeing the immense perspective of the west side of the peak. At 13,993 it’s definitely impressive!

Mono Lake is a very unique ecosystem all of its own. Certain times of year, there is a build of up of algae that creates this surreal green water. On this stormy day, it felt like we were at the ocean on another planet. When we were done shooting and left, we ran into snow falling down just a mile away.

On the west side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, there are several gorgeous high lakes. Desolation Lake is definitely a sight for sore eyes after about 9 miles of hiking.

On a trip in 2017 we witnessed a chilling windstorm that was pushing snow and ice across the landscape. In this photo, it looks there are not only clouds, but wind-blown ice. Chilling, yet beautiful!

One of our favorite sites while heading south into California is Mount Shasta. It’s one of the most impressive of the Cascade Volcanoes. There are several lava domes surrounding the volcano, but nothing can cloud the height as it stands above the landscape at 14,180 feet.
